Mindfulness for every person and every lifestyle

For individuals, Lien offers two different group programs. Anyone can sign up, whether they are beginners or have experience in any form of meditation.

MBSR
The MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) program is a structured way to learn how to meditate in different ways (sitting, lying down, walking, moving, eating). For 8 weeks, participants meet once per week in group and allocate 45 minutes per day to practicing the exercises and meditations at home. Gradually, participants become autonomous in their meditation practice and in its application to their daily lives, relationships, work, etc. During the weekly sessions, there is room for conversation and for discussing difficulties and questions.

MBSR was developed in 1979 by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, an American professor at MIT, who helped bring mindfulness into the mainstream as a secular, non-religious practice.

It is the form of meditation that has been most studied by scientific research, showing the positive effects that mindfulness can have on mental and physical health.

MBSR Adapted
This program is a shortened version of MBSR and was designed by Lien as an accessible and practical alternative, mostly for people with busy lives and little time.

The main difference is that we do not expect that participants practice 45 minutes at home; instead, we explore together what amount of time is feasible for each participant (for example, 5, 10, or 20 minutes a day). The idea behind “MBSR Adapted” is that it is better to meditate for a few minutes a day than nothing at all.

The intentions of both programs are:

  • Understanding our mechanisms behind stress, emotions and the associated reaction patterns
  • Experiencing how mindfulness can help manage stress and emotions, by developing new and creative responses
  • Exploring how our thoughts can influence automatic reactions
  • Developing an autonomous meditation practice

The emphasis is put on learning from our own experience. Each weekly session includes meditation practices, mindfulness exercises based on everyday situations, theoretical information about stress, emotions, cognitive functions, etc., group discussions and personal guidance.

Motivations
The main reasons why people participate in MBSR and “MBSR Adapted” are:

  • To learn how to deal with:
    • Stress
    • Strong emotions such as anxiety, panic, sadness, anger, impulsivity, etc.
    • Chronic pain, illness, grief, major life changes
    • Concentration problems, distraction, rumination
    • Sleep problems, fatigue, headaches
  • Or simply wanting to take care of themselves and learning how to meditate in a non-religious way

See below for dates & practical information about the programs in English.

They are organized twice a year, in fall and in spring.
